M | what are the most recent projects with those interesting relationships?
JvH | “Baas op Zuid” was the first one with this kind of overlapped between architecture design and internet communication: a small project for an area in south of Rotterdam that was really in the need for some new impulse (still is a very bad area); we developed an internet tool in which people who lived there could speak up about the direction in which it should be changed, for example they could choose from more emphasis on the security or more emphasis on their kids too; the special thing was not like a questionnaire about what you want but is a very visual thing, so if you say I want more money for the security you really see that security goes up and other things go down; so we try to simulate like a real interactive process, little bit like “SimCity” but extremely more simple.
M | how many kind of participation are there?
JvH | Participation is not only about deciding and designing what is going to happen but speaking about what is going to happen, about knowing and being well informed; step number 1 is knowing be informed, step 2 is knowing be informed and be able to speak up, step 3 is always be able to point a direction, step 4 is to participate…
